From indulging in chocolate treats to enjoying huge portions of roast turkey and all the trimmings, there’s plenty of temptation in the festive season. And, while cheese boards and bottles of fizz will be on the cards for some Britons as part of New Year Celebrations, many people will be looking ahead to how they can lose weight in January. Diet guru Terri-Ann Nunns has helped a number of Brits to get slim in the past, as well as having previously lost seven stone in the space of 12 months herself. Now, the mother-of-four has released a new diet plan which sees slimmers ditching meat in a bid to lose weight.

Embracing a vegetarian diet, the The Terri-Ann V Plan focuses on cheap and practical meat-free recipes.

In order to create the plan, Terri-Ann teamed up with vegetarian dietitian Ro Huntress.

The clinical dietitian and expert nutritionist said: “As a vegetarian, being able to deliver a product like the Terri Ann V Plan to market has been a dream come true.

“I’m so excited to see how this transforms lives. Eating less meat is amazing, not only does it help the environment and animal welfare, the health benefits are unbelievable and it’s such a cheap and easy lifestyle when you get the basics right.

The plant-based and vegetarian diet plan claims to promote sustainable weight loss guidance, as well as balanced nutrition.

According to the NHS website, following a vegetarian diet can be very healthy.

However, this is not automatically achieved simply by cutting out meat.

Instead, the NHS recommend eating at least five portions of different fruit and vegetables each day.

As well as eating starchy carbohydrates and some dairy or dairy alternatives, beans pulses, eggs and proteins are advised – as are small amounts of unsaturated oils and spreads.

When it comes to slimming, a study has suggested that a vegetarian diet could be twice as effective than one which includes meat.

As reported by The Independent last year, researchers from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington DC found that vegetarians could also reduce muscle fat – which could boost their metabolism.

The research was carried out with the help of 74 people with Type 2 diabetes.

These participants were then randomly selected to follow either a vegetarian diet or an anti-diabetic diet.

The former option was almost vegan, with animal products limited to one portion of low-fat yoghurt per day.

Weight loss potential was assessed via the diets being restricted to 500 calories less per day than what they would normally consume in order to maintain their weight.

Lead author Dr Hana Kahleová said: “Vegetarian diets proved to be the most effective diets for weight loss. However, we also showed that a vegetarian diet is much more effective at reducing muscle fat, thus improving metabolism.”
