Weight loss tips: Adding spicy chilli peppers to diet could boost quick slimming results

Weight loss isn’t an easy task, and finding the motivation can be difficult in the beginning – especially when you don’t immediately see the results.

While cutting down on a particular food group for a short period can see you shift the pounds, the answer for a slimmer figure in the long-term seems to be through exercise and following a healthy balanced diet.

But, for anyone looking to kickstart their weight loss journey, experts have said one particular food could be a huge help.

According to a study at the University of Copenhagen’s Department of Food Science, a compound in chilli peppers, called capsaicin, could lower one’s appetite.

Studies have also proven that the same ingredient can boost metabolism.

A higher metabolism means that your body will burn calories faster – rather than retaining them in your body.

In an article published in the Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition, authors recommended capsaicin could be used in order to combat obesity.

The report concluded: “Our data clearly suggest that capsaicin or capsiate could be a new therapeutic approach in obesity promoting a negative energy balance and increased fat oxidation.”

This means incorporating spicy foods into your healthy diet could improve your chances of reaching those weight loss goals – although this is disputed in some other studies.

There are number of other types of food which are noted for boosting your metabolism.

One group is protein-rich foods, such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes, nuts, and seeds.

Eating these as part of your diet could help you to increase your metabolism for a few hours.

Caffeine is also widely recognised for its metabolism-boosting properties.

According to research, sipping coffee and green tea could therefore mean you see better results when it comes to shifting the pounds.

That said, indulging in a milky hot drink which is laden with sugar at your local coffee house is unlikely to work wonders for your waist-line.

In actual fact, it could mean the opposite, if these shocking figures are anything to go by.

While it’s important to treat yourself now and then, health and nutrition experts at have highlighted some of the calories which can be found in a number of high street products – which saw them compare some items on the menu at Costa, Starbucks, Pret a Manger, Greggs, and Caffè Nero.

When it came to the cappuccinos, a low calorie option in the study was unveiled as Caffè Nero.

The drink contains just 65 calories and 5.2 grams of sugar per serving.

Meanwhile, a Starbucks cappuccino has a whopping 129 calories per serving – as well as 11.4 grams of sugar.
