Weight loss can be aided by Tibetan herbs, some claim, but is this really true?
One Netmums thread saw the weight loss method promoted by a user of the site.
They wrote: “After many researches I found Tibetan herbs for slimming I’m not sure if you have heard about them already or not but they are just natural herbs for brewing like a tea and they are unbelievably good in boosting your metabolism in natural way.
“I’ve lost 3 stones with them and found that my metabolism really speeded up, also know few more people who have similar experiences with them.”
Website selling the herbs claim the have lots of weight loss benefits.
There is no concrete scientific evidence to suggest that so-called weight loss herbs really cause weight loss.
However, one expert has warned against taking them in large doses.
Professor Roger Byard from the University of Adelaide has said: “There’s a false perception that herbal remedies are safer than manufactured medicines, when in fact many contain potentially lethal concentrations of arsenic, mercury and lead.
“These substances may cause serious illnesses, exacerbate pre-existing health problems or result in death, particularly if taken in excess or injected rather than ingested.”
Of course, those taking weight loss supplements should proceed with caution and ask their doctor if they are worried.
However, there are a number of natural herbs that have shown in some studies to aid weight loss when paired with a healthy diet and exercise regimen.
This includes fenugreek, which was found in a study to increase feelings of fullness.
Cayenne pepper has also been shown to help burn extra calories by increasing the metabolism.
Experts have claimed the Keto diet can help Britons lose 10 pounds in a week.
The diet downs by lowering the body’s level of insulin – the fat storing hormone.
Resulting in weight being shed fast, the diet plan works by sending the body into ketosis, a state which can be reached by simply cutting out carbs and embarking on a high-fat diet.
