A number of studies have found a link between the popular diet drink and losing weight, so how does it work?
Sophie Medlin, registered dietitian and owner at City Dietitians told NetDoctor.co.uk the acids in the UK are responsible for the weight loss effect.
The expert said: “There is a small amount of evidence that apple cider vinegar aids weight loss as an appetite suppressant.
“Studies suggest that it may alter the way that we absorb carbohydrates.
“There is also some limited evidence that it may slow down how quickly your stomach empties, which might help to keep you full for longer.”
So what is the best time to drink apple cider vinegar?
Scientists believe taking apple cider vinegar before you eat is the key to shedding the pounds.
This is because it reduces glucose levels, halting blood sugar spikes that cause extreme feelings of hunger leading to binging.
A study from Arizona State University studied groups of people who ate a bagel and a drank juice in a trial.
Those who had two teaspoons of vinegar before the meal reduced their blood sugar levels.
Scientists added: “This effect was most pronounced when vinegar was ingested during mealtime as compared to 5 h before the meal.”
According to Natural Remedies 4U, the liquid can actually speed up weight loss and has the potential to help Britons lose a whopping 11 pounds in one week.
The vinegar works by ridding the body of toxins, and as a result boosts digestion and the metabolism.
